Montana Engels is a contemporary artist born in Belgium, internationally recognized for her innovative approach to portraiture. She has developed distinctive visual language that redefines the relationship between abstraction and realism. Using exclusively hand-painted stripes, Montana creates portraits that appear abstract at close range yet resolve into strikingly realistic images as the viewer steps back. This optical transformation invites an active engagement with the work, rewarding distance, movement, and perception.

Creativity has always been central to Montana's life, but her artistic practice evolved into a professional career following her appearance on Belgium's Got Talent, where her work reached a broad public audience. Shortly thereafter, she was commissioned by the Hazard family and began a rapid ascent within the international art and cultural scene. Her practice has since extended to high-profile commissions for celebrities, members of the Belgian royal family, and live painting performances at major events such as Tomorrowland, as well as private events, weddings, and international exhibitions.

In parallel, Montana has collaborated with an impressive range of global brands, including MAC Cosmetics, Disney, Aston Martin, PlayStation, Porsche, MINI, Sheraton, Jägermeister, Bombay Sapphire, the National Lottery, Antwerp Diamond Museum, and many others—demonstrating the versatility and contemporary relevance of her work.

Montana studied at the Antwerp International School, where she received the IB Art Award in 2011 and graduated with a perfect score in Fine Arts. She later continued her studies in Art History and Marketing at IESA in Paris, further refining her artistic vision while drawing inspiration from the city's cultural and emotional landscape.

Her signature "Striped" style is both technically rigorous and conceptually rich. Each line is deliberately placed, considering its relationship to the lines before and after it, creating a complex interplay of light, shadow, rhythm, and form. This disciplined approach reflects her belief that art must remain rooted in skill and craftsmanship. As Montana states, "The reason I combine abstraction with realism is because art should remain a skill. Abstraction allows you to feel with your eyes, while realism preserves the integrity of the craft."

Through this philosophy, Montana Engels positions her work at the intersection of innovation and tradition—championing beauty, originality, and technical mastery as enduring values in contemporary art.
