Pablo Fernandez, Jr. | Cuba

Pablo Fernández Jr.  was born in Pinar del Río, Cuba, into a family deeply connected to the visual arts. His father is an accomplished painter, and his mother, self-taught in the visual arts, fostered an environment in which creativity was a natural part of daily life. Surrounded by the artistic process from an early age, Fernández developed a strong interest in painting during childhood and began working with intention as early as five years old, participating in school competitions and refining his technical skills.

At the age of fourteen, Fernández applied to the San Alejandro Academy in Havana. Although he was not initially accepted due to his young age, he persisted and gained admission the following year. He graduated with honors in 2019, presenting a thesis recognized among the most outstanding of his class. Soon after, he joined the faculty of the same institution, becoming the youngest professor in the Academy's history—an achievement that further strengthened his artistic discipline and academic foundation.

His practice merges photorealism and hyperrealism with influences drawn from pop art and surrealism. Through this synthesis, Fernández creates works of striking precision and near-photographic realism that challenge perception and invite prolonged contemplation. His work often unfolds through thematic series, including Human Conduction, which draws from family portraiture, as well as ongoing explorations of gender, identity, and freedom of love. These bodies of work emphasize the complexity of the human condition and its emotional and social challenges.

Widely admired for his impeccable technique, Fernández's paintings often require multiple viewings for the viewer to recognize them as handmade works rather than photographs. Despite his early recognition as a prominent photorealist, his primary aspiration is not prestige, but the pursuit of a fulfilling artistic life—one grounded in creative integrity, personal happiness, and dedication to his family.

Fernández has participated in numerous group exhibitions and international art fairs, including Art Paris at the Grand Palais in France, and has developed exhibitions in Cuba, Mexico, and other countries. In 2022, he relocated to Miami, where he continued to expand his international presence. Since then, he has participated in major art fairs such as Art Basel Miami (2023, 2024, 2025), Context Art Miami, Art Wynwood (2023, 2024), Art Palm Beach (2023, 2024, 2025), Art Santa Fe (2023), and Intersect Art & Design in Aspen, Colorado (2025). He has also taken part in international collective exhibitions, including a group exhibition at Arte San Ramón Gallery in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

In parallel, his artworks have gained international visibility, forming part of exhibitions and private collections in France, Mexico, the United States, Spain, and Austria.

Widely admired for his impeccable technique, Fernández's paintings often require multiple viewings for the viewer to recognize them as handmade works rather than photographs.
