Thannyo Edwin de Freitas Navarro
Bachelor of Fine Arts, specialized in Visual Arts with an emphasis on Drawing and Painting.
“Nature is God’s art,” and through it, we give life and peace to our mental, physical, and spiritual well-being. The infinite combination of colors and perfect illumination in each piece created by his imagination represent Thannyo de Freitas’s natural process. He affirms that nature is the space to discover oneself.
Thannyo de Freitas was born on April 25, 1976, in the province of Colón. Later, he moved to Panama City. From a young age, he demonstrated innate artistic talents and, with great enthusiasm, participated in numerous painting and drawing competitions. His talent earned him a scholarship that marked the beginning of his academic journey. He completed his studies at the University of Panama, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts, with a specialization in Visual Arts, focusing on Drawing and Painting.
A lover of nature, Thannyo offers moments of meditation through his realism and serenity, which help restore our energies. His landscapes are inspired by the colors of our tropics, the waters of lakes reflecting the sky, and the seven herons that embellish his works—referencing his six brothers and himself. These birds with white plumage symbolize purity, regardless of the environment they are in.
His floating islands are fascinating experiences, conceived by his imagination, which invite us to enjoy harmonious trees of vibrant colors such as the yellow of Guayacán and the purple of Jacaranda. Among his extraordinary works is a floating island in cobalt blue, with a mystical touch over a white background.
His continuous interaction with nature and his desire to perfect every detail have led him to collect a piece of earth, where he observes suspended roots that inspire him deeply. He notes that even the smallest plants have strong roots capable of supporting and giving life. Thannyo passionately states that nature is an example of life that teaches us how to live and coexist. He explains that just as trees need strong roots to stand tall, we need a solid family foundation to believe and grow.
Over the years, Thannyo has received important recognition through solo and group exhibitions at both national and international levels, with a career spanning more than 20 years. His artwork has been showcased worldwide. Currently, he has representation in Panama, New York (Manhattan), El Salvador, São Paulo (Brazil), and the Dominican Republic.
In 2019, Thannyo was recently selected by CFM International, in partnership with GE (General Electric) and Safran Aircraft Engines, to contribute his work titled Serenity for their annual calendar. Only artists from around the world are chosen for this honor, and Thannyo was privileged to lead the first month of the year, representing Panama.
Thannyo de Freitas Navarro is a Panamanian artist who paints what he feels. He often says that one must live from within to express outwardly, rather than from outside to inside. By doing so, we act in harmony with our true selves, without fear of making mistakes. He also maintains a strong social commitment to nature, using his art to highlight and promote the beauty and care of the environment.
With his inner light and good sense of humor, Thannyo’s creativity flows freely, leaving his passion imprinted on his magnificent paintings. His insatiable need for art drives him to immerse himself in a world of bright colors during his leisure time, where he captures the spirits of lush jungles in series such as those of Thannyo. He also enjoys the gifts of music, especially percussion, which he shares with family.
