Landscaped Illusions curated by Mariavelia Savino, Curator of Contemporary Art Projects USA will be on display from December 4-9th, 2018 at  Scope-Miami International Contemporary Art Fair, Booth G13 as part of Art Basel Miami Week. Zammy Migdal will be part of this exhibition which encompasses a diversity of artistic media and densities. From paint/collage on steel and cement canvas to urban street landscapes or three-dimensional views of skies, waters or topographical lands, from sculptures in polished steel or cement to dreamlike Plexiglas or glass mounted photographic images fulfilled by mystery and fantasy. Our goal is to present the expansion of the human mind through Art, as an unlimited source of imagery, depictions, thoughts and feelings, endless and infinite, as it is the Universe in which we live, either the real one, or the one fulfilled by the magical abstract visions that Artists create while depicting it. A section of the exhibition will relate its visitors with visions of graffiti and branding, including a subtle night view of Manhattan, New York, and a motivating tribute to Basquiat as one of the masters that mastered this genre so popular in NYC. The other section is about landscape and nature. The unique artistic pieces will travel from the deep sea to the infinite space, as well as by the wonder of the minimal transcending as major Art theme, and also by depictions of a fantastic world, where animal and human are able to merge, beyond pain or destruction.

Zammy Migdal, born in Tel Aviv, Israel, served in the Israeli Army, 1975-1979. From 1980, lives in Miami, FL, obtaining a B.A. Hospitality Management at Florida International University. Before devoting his life to Visual Art, he was general manager and partner at Indian Creek Hotel, Miami Beach, winning awards for restoring the hotel to its 1930s glamour. Zammy has a big interest in the Arts, been their supporter:  2002-2005, in the Board of Directors of Maximum Dance; 2005-2009, as Board of Directors Member of Ballet Gamonet and in 2006-2009, as its President; from 2008-present is Member of the  Miami-Dade Art in Public Places Trust. He studied art in metal with Carolina Sardi and Daniel Fiorda at the Lincoln Road’s Art Center of South Florida, becoming a full-time sculptor in 2005, developing his artistic creativity in self-standing sculptures and wall installations. His abstract Art represents images from his imagination that he wants to share with others.  Three-dimensional creation always interested him. He brings life and motion to new or recycled metal, connecting his works to each other, their textures reflecting an inner world of fertile vital imagination. His first abstract Series Tropical Metal inspired by the plants in his garden, followed by Square Chain  and Construction Series inspired by the amount of construction in our environment, a visit to Morocco inspired his Levitation series, later his Turbulence series made viewers visualize motion over each metal piece, some appearing like imaginary wooden surfaces in contrast to others looking as metallic boiling elements to remind the changing evolving nature of the Universe composed by opposite forces that create the equilibrium for unexpected peaceful end results. Moved by his nearby nature and people, he continues to evolve creating new shapes, reaching balance, essential form and grace, obtaining the equivalent of the perfection of any form of Art. Today, at Scope Art Fair, he depicts not only an image but an event. The raw materials and powerful images assembled by Zammy create vibrations by penetrations, provoke contrasts, inner spaces and deep holes projected to the infinite, while metal filter the backgrounds as these works become intriguing beauty. Composition, equilibrium and balance are qualities of his Art. At once we experience the effects of color, form and symbol. On the Series of Polygon Graffiti he combines geometric shapes that interact representing non-real objects based in real images and experiences. For Zammy emotion is paramount in the symbiosis of abstraction and feeling. He depicts emotional instants of life using paint, wood, metal, acrylic, creating a variety of textures, colors and visual effects to suggest stress, torsion, equilibrium or pain. On his poetic artworks, inspired by his life and travels, nothing is left to improvisation. Assembling artistically designed elements on a flat surface, Zammy transforms it into a rich surface plentiful of texture and color to interact among metal elements, backgrounds, attaching pins, space, light and shadows. Raw materials are used without additional decoration. On his latest work, a new ingredient appears on top of the raw color coated material. A simple metal stripe becomes a unique vibrating element under the masterly creative act of the Artist. This year, after a hit-and-run driver rolled over his foot as he crossed the street, he used Art to replicate the life experience  of his reconstructive surgery and months of rehab: ZMM @HSS is a Series created when he got back on his feet, born from the X-rays of his damaged foot that he transferred on canvas, stretched over wooden boxes, topped with metal and painting to express his pain and revival. “I’m not going to let the injury define me, I’m blessed, and I’m having fun.” “Art was always within me!” Zammy says about ZMM @ HSS: “Life changes in a split second… It happened so fast… From happily walking across the street… To find me on the pavement with excruciating pain…I didn’t know what happened! …Surgery at HSS… 16 screws and counting… 4 months in bed… Intense physical therapy… Learning to walk. I share with you my foot.”

About The Graffiti, Pentagon Files, ZZM, he says: “Barcelona… Mom’s 90th… Walls of poetry on garage doors everywhere… I discovered …Messages of freedom …Messages of misery …Messages of protest …Messages of love and humanity …Colors and shapes… Now Pentagons”

His Art is in homes, businesses and public spaces worldwide, from Hong Kong to Las Vegas. Closer to home, is at Temple Beth Am, Pinecrest, Bloomingdale’s, Aventura, and Miami Dade College, Hialeah.
